On the afternoon of April 22, 2024, Professor Li Longyuan from the School of Engineering, Computing, and Mathematics at Plymouth University, gave an academic lecture titled How to Write a Technical Paper for an Academic Journal in Conference Room 8A509 of the Modern Transportation Engineering Center. The lecture is jointly organized by the School of Urban Railway Transportation at Shanghai University of Engineering and Technology and the Railway Engineering Professional Committee of the Shanghai Society of Civil Engineering. It is chaired by Professor Wang Lei, Vice Dean of the School of Urban Railway Transportation.
At the beginning of the meeting, Professor Wang Lei, Vice Dean of the School of Urban Rail Transit, solemnly introduced Professor Li Longyuan and warmly welcomed his arrival on behalf of the School of Urban Rail Transit. He encouraged teachers and students to listen carefully to lectures, master the methods and skills of writing academic papers, and strive to gain something from them.
At the meeting, Professor Li Longyuan first introduced the relevant situation of Plymouth University in the UK, and then gave a lecture on how to write academic papers from the following aspects, including: how to generate research ideas in specific fields; How to modify and expand research ideas; How to transform research ideas into papers; The general structure of the paper; How to write an introduction, methodology, results discussion, and conclusion section; How to communicate with editors or reviewers. Professor Li shared his own experience and editing standards with students, inspiring their enthusiasm for academic paper writing and greatly enhancing their confidence in paper writing and publication.
After the meeting, the teachers and students who participated in the academic lecture actively discussed issues related to paper writing with Professor Li Longyuan. The atmosphere at the conference was lively, and the teachers and students present listened attentively to and studied the lecture content, further broadening their academic horizons.
Professor Li Longyuan is a professor at the School of Engineering, Computing, and Mathematics at Plymouth University in the United Kingdom. The research areas include material mechanics, durability, reliability, and fire safety of reinforced concrete structures. He has published over 200 papers in SCI journals, with a high impact h-index factor of 45. Professor Li is the editor in chief of the journal Construction and Building Materials, and an editorial board member of various international journals such as Cement and Concrete Composites, Magazine of Concrete Research, and Journal of Marine Engineering and Technology.
