On the afternoon of October 16th, an orbital time afternoon tea event with the theme of Face to Face with Top Scientists was held as scheduled.  This event was hosted by Professor Hu Dingyu, and Professor Sheng Xiaozhen specially invited Professor David Thompson from the University of Southampton in the UK to discuss with the faculty on how to conduct high-level scientific research and effectively guide graduate and doctoral students.

During the event, many young teachers actively participated and shared their practical teaching and research problems with Professor David Thompson. This includes how to effectively guide students into a research state, how to guide students to conduct research in new directions, and how to cleverly use mathematical tools to solve complex engineering problems.

Professor David Thompson provided insightful answers to these questions based on his research and teaching experience. He emphasized that different guidance methods should be adopted for different students, as each student has their unique strengths and challenges. Meanwhile, Professor David Thompson candidly stated that some of the issues he encountered in his practical work and is still exploring are difficult problems.

This Orbital Time afternoon tea activity not only provides teachers with a valuable opportunity to have direct conversations with top scientists, but also provides important inspiration and reference for their future teaching and research work. The college will take this as an opportunity to further promote the improvement of scientific research and teaching quality.
