In order to enhance the level of teachers in applying for national high-level scientific research projects and stimulate the enthusiasm of researchers, the college actively prepares and promotes the application for the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2024. On January 2nd, the college invited Professor Sun Jian from the Department of Transportation Engineering at Tongji University to give an academic lecture on the application and exchange of natural science funds for teachers and students. The lecture was hosted by Professor Liu Zhigang, Dean of School of Urban Railway Transportation.
Professor Sun Jian systematically explained how to write a high-quality fund project application form from four aspects: subject code setting, new situation of fund application, how to write an application form, and related precautions. During the lecture, Professor Sun introduced the eight major scientific issues currently facing the rail industry and provided direction for teachers and students on topic selection. He emphasized the need to avoid virtual, soft, and non consensus when selecting topics, and to achieve demand driven, problem driven, and finding the real problem. In addition, Professor Sun also shared the achievements and progress of his personal team in the construction of an online public testing service platform for autonomous driving. Subsequently, a systematic and comprehensive analysis was conducted on topics selection, abstract writing, project basis, research objectives, content, key issues, research plans, feasibility analysis, and other aspects. Finally, many important suggestions and precautions were proposed.
After the report meeting, Professor Sun Jian had in-depth exchanges with the attending teachers and students, and warmly answered their questions. The attending teachers and students expressed that through listening to the report and in-depth communication, they have gained a deeper understanding and comprehension of fund application, laying a solid foundation for future application writing and application work.
